SUSTAINABILITY

Protecting the environment

Gata Fur has an ambitious sourcing policy towards the materials used to create its products — one that is evidence-based, conscientious, and meets the high standards people rightly expect. As such, Gata Fur is committed to Furmark®, the comprehensive global certification and traceability system for natural fur that guarantees animal welfare and environmental standards.

While Furmark® offers “end-to-end” certification (covering the entire supply chain and certifying the resultant product). Precisely because every stage of the Furmark® supply chain is certified, the system also incorporates “sourcing-level” certification (covering the start of the supply chain and certifying the natural raw material itself) because of the various industryleading animal welfare and environmental programmes for farm-raised fur and wild fur.

These programmes cover a range of fur types, from mink, fox, and Finnraccoon (WelFur) to karakul (Swakara) as well as the process of dressing and dyeing: Gata Fur is committed to sourcing fur responsibly and to a sustainable supply chain.

Sustainable natural fur sourced from these science-based, third-party verified, and transparent programmes is recognised as such and is considered certified under Furmark®. Furmark®-certified products will include the appropriate labels, complete with a unique alphanumeric code. Gata Fur customers and prospective customers are able to access detailed traceability information about the fur incorporated into their Gata Fur product using the Furmark® Trace Now portal.

This includes the precise standard the fur has been produced to. Furmark® is managed and governed by the International Fur Federation (IFF) who represent the global fur sector and regulate its practice and trade.

Further information on Furmark® can be found on the website.

TRANSPARENCY

Gata Fur is proud to be a partner of Furmark®, the comprehensive global certification and traceability system for natural fur. Furmark® means that Gata Fur is able to offer certified natural fur products that have met internationally recognised animal welfare and environmental standards.

Furmark®-certified products have a unique alphanumeric label code that provides full traceability details (fur type; fur origin, animal welfare programme; manufacturer; and place of manufacture), ensuring Gata Fur consumers can have confidence in the certified natural fur products they are purchasing.

Furmark® certification means consistent standards across the supply chain: it only incorporates wild or farm-raised natural fur from the leading animal welfare programmes (including the first animal welfare programme to feature on the European Commission’s list of Self-Regulation and Co-Regulation Initiative, WelFur).

A range of fur types are incorporated, including farm-raised mink, fox, Finnraccoon, and Swakara, alongside wild varieties such as coyote and sable. Furmark® has three key principles — science, independent inspection, and transparency — which is why Gata Fur is proud to be partnering with Furmark® to ensure that natural sustainable fur it uses meets the high standards our customers rightly expect of us. Further information on Furmark® can be found on the website.
